Although Wakefield lost their unbeaten record at Brooklands, they maintained their place at the top of the North Conference as, second placed, Loughborough Students, also lost. Brooklands struck swiftly scoring two early goals. Gwen Smith pulled one back before half time but Brooklands added to their lead midway through the second half. Gee Byas narrowed the gap but Wakefield were unable to find the important equaliser. This next weekend is a rest day.

As with the first team, Wakefield 2nds lost their unbeaten record but remain top of North Division 1 as second placed Whitley Bay, also lost. Wakefield had the better of the play in the first half, putting the home side under pressure. Against the run of play Lancaster won a penalty corner which was saved on the post by Claire Berry. Wakefield counter attacked down the left but Julia Butterworth’s shot was well saved by the keeper. Lancaster stunned the visitors mid way through the second half when careless defensive work allowed them only their second shot on goal, which beat the Wakefield keeper. Wakefield worked hard to find an equaliser with Gabby House having a shot saved. In the dying minutes Tilly Morgan’s shot went agonisingly wide. Wakefield host Lymm at 3,00 pm on Saturday.
