Ladies Hockey – Wins and Selection Success

Ladies Hockey – Saturday 28th Nov 2015

Wakefield 1st X1  0 Beeston 2

A goal by the visitors in the early minutes of the game forced Wakefield onto the back foot in the first half, which was dominated by Beeston. Despite creating several good goal scoring chances in the second half, including one shot saved on the line by a Beeston defender, Wakefield were unlucky not to equalise. As the home side pushed forward in search of the elusive goal, Beeston counter attacked and scored a second goal to secure victory. Wakefield go into the winter break, top of the North Conference although their lead has been cut to 5 points. The outdoor schedule recommences on Saturday February 6th.

Wakefield 2nd X1  3  Bolton  0

An early goal for Wakefield set the tone for the rest of the game. A good break away saw Tilly Morgan drive into the D and score a good goal in the third minute. The home side continued to attack, winning a couple of penalty corners. Harriet White added a second goal  at the third penalty corner. Wakefield appeared to be in control but Bolton gradually began to counter attack, winning a series of penalty corners. Fortunately good defending by the Wakefield keeper kept the score line unchanged. In the second half Wakefield increased their lead when Julia Butterworth fired home from the top of the D. In atrocious conditions, both teams battled hard but thanks to good defensive work Wakefield held on to finish the game with 3 more points, keeping them at the top of North Division 1. On Saturday Wakefield travel to Newcastle University.
