The Chess season has started again and the Club continues to have two teams in the Saturday Yorkshire leagues and an evening team in the Huddersfield league. The Junior membership continues to grow with over 20 members at the moment. Wakefield’s first team have started the new season very well, having won their first two matches against a team from Leeds and the other from Bradford. The Club are looking to return to the top division again.

Peter Shaw played in the British Championships during the Summer and scored a very creditable 5.5 out of 11 against Michael Adams (the best player in England and in the world’s top 20). Peter put up a good fight against him and only lost after a very long game. Club nights are on Mondays in the Bowls pavilion (6:30 pm – 9:30 pm) and everyone is welcome.
