With a very new squad this season, Wakefield got off to the perfect start as Rebecca Ward drove into the D in the second minute. Her first shot was saved well by the student’ keeper but the rebound went straight back to Ward who slipped the ball to Julia Butterworth for the opening goal. Wakefield continued to press and junior Tilly Morgan came very close to doubling the score when she found herself one on one with the keeper. Her lifted shot was well saved. Wakefield’s defence worked hard to keep the students at bay with youngster Sarah Baker making a good debut appearance in defence. In goal Becky Hague had little to do. Wakefield had more chances in the second half as midfielders Poppy McDermott and Aisling Madden attacked down the flanks. Shots went wide and Wakefield held out for a well earned 3 points. On Saturday they travel to Ben Rhydding for a 11.30 start.
