Wakefield 2nds 2  Lymm 2

A hard earned draw saw Wakefield, once again, retain their place at the top of North Division 1. Wakefield got off to a very good start putting pressure on the Lymm defence. In the opening minute Lauren Brooke drove into the D but shot wide. Minutes later Georgie Lewis was inches away from a great cross by Emily Schorah. More attacks followed but Wakefield couldn’t find the net. Against the run of play, Lymm were awarded a penalty corner, from which they scored. Wakefield rallied and continued to attack. Harriet White put in a great cross and Vicki Green came close when her shot went wide. At the break, Lymm still lead.

Sensing that Wakefield were taking control of the game, Lymm upped their pace and won a penalty corner soon after the restart. Gabby Leeson made an excellent save on the line as the ball evaded the Wakefield keeper. Wakefield rallied once again and won a penalty corner. Harriet White’s strike beat the Lymm keeper to allow the home side back into the game. The pace of the game remained high. In defence Emma White and Alice Blades worked tirelessly to win possession and set up more attacks. Blades moved into midfield and Green into the forward line which gave Wakefield more attacking options. Wakefield lost two players with a green and yellow card midway through the half but defended brilliantly only to concede a goal after a Lymm player kicked the ball in the D. Once back at full strength the home side set up attack after attack. White struck again from a penalty corner to ensure that the points were shared. Wakefield’s player of the match was Alice Blades. Wakefield travel to second placed Didsbury Greys on Saturday.
